SONO”R”US:

New Machine for Microparts Moulding based on Ultrasound Excitation

SONO”R”US is a Demonstration Project from the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) connecting companies and research institutes from several European countries to develop a machine that forms micro-products by making use of ultrasound technique for both heating and injecting of the molten polymer into a mold.

Objective of the project:

Develop a new machine for the manufacturing of  micro parts utilizing ultrasonic technology.

The aim of the project is the improving in terms of reliability and reproducibility of the micro-parts of a pre-commercial machine, which was developed during a previous project called Sonoplast. The outcome of the project should be a machine which is ready for introduction to the market

Description of the project:

SONO”R”US is a Demonstration Project from the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) connecting companies and research institutes from several European countries to develop a machine that forms micro-products by making use of ultrasound technique for both heating and injecting of the molten polymer into a mold.

Compared to the traditional injection molding process, this technique is faster and much more energy-efficient. Additional time-saving could be realized since no purging of the machine is needed during material or color changes.

The aim of the project is the improving in terms of reliability and reproducibility of the micro-parts of a pre-commercial machine, which was developed during a previous project called Sonoplast.

Objective:

A machine that is ready for the introduction for the commercial market.

The outcome of the project should be a machine which is ready for introduction to the market. The Sonorus project focused part of its activities on market analysis and business models for reaching the best strategy for the worldwide exploitation of the commercial machine.
